With the holidays approaching, so too are office parties, friendly gatherings, and big family get-togethers. And that’s not even mentioning the ice skating dates, turkey dinner shenanigans, and present openings. To sum it all up, you’ve got a lot of great photo opportunities on the horizon. Do you have a great camera to capture them with? Black Friday is the perfect time to find a camera that will do everything you want it to.

If you get the camera out on special occasions, or to capture everyday fun. What you want is a Sony point and shoot, such as the CyberShot. With the powerful little brains packed inside these guys, you hardly even have to think when you take a photo. Like the name says: point, shoot. That’s it. You can play around with the settings if you know what you’re doing (or if you plan on learning by reading the manual) but otherwise, Sony point and shoots will figure out exactly what kind of photo you’re trying to take and adjust its settings on the fly for the best possible picture. On top of that, flip from one mode to the other and point and shoots become video cameras.

If your point and shoot pictures already look like works of art, it may be time to reward yourself by upgrading to an entry-level DSLR. Canon and Nikon have been jockeying for top spot in the DSLR category for a while, and you can’t go wrong with something out of the Canon Rebel line, or a Nikon D5100.

Where to buy on Black Friday. Because of the increased bulk of DSLRs, you’re going to want to see how different ones feel in your hands. Staples and Best Buy both offer nice selections, and sometimes on top of a Black Friday deal, you can snag open box savings. Just don’t let them upsell you on add-ons like new lenses before you’re ready.

Where to buy on Black Friday. This won’t be available just anywhere. You’ll have your best luck in camera specialty stores where you may be able to sweet talk the manager into a little extra discount.
