Where to Save on Black Friday GPS

We hope you know which stores you’re going to on Black Friday and how to get there, because there’s no way we’d recommend buying a GPS device before then. Not with the GPS sales that are coming on best-selling brands like Garmin and TomTom. You might get lost, but the deals will be worth it.

A better idea may actually be to take your GPS shopping online. Target’s website boasts a much wider selection of GPS units than their stores do, and those online offerings include the top-rated Garmin Nuvi line as well as the TomTom Start. However, if you’re dead set on having a new GPS unit in your car by the end of Black Friday, there are plenty of cheap GPS deals to be had with a little legwork.

Last year Walmart, Radio Shack and Cabela’s all offered early bird deals on Garmin Nuvis. Even without early bird or doorcrasher sales, Garmin and TomTom GPS devices were marked down a whopping $50-$70 at both Sears and Kmart. One other vehicle GPS brand that will be on sale this year along with the two big ones is Magellan. And if you’re looking for the best Black Friday deals on cheap GPS regardless of brand, Target’s Maylong is a reliable option.

The deals don’t begin and end with vehicle GPS units. The Garmin Oregon handheld GPS device for hiking, hunting, geocaching and other back-country activities will likely be marked down between $50 and $80 at Dick’s Sporting Goods and Cabela’s. For a handheld GPS that costs a little less to begin with, check out the Bushnell Backtrack line. Last year at Dunham’s Sports, the Bushnell’s were discounted by up to 50%.

For the athletes among us, turn your attention to the Heart Rate Company website for Black Friday deals. In the last couple years Garmin has allowed a lot of flexibility on their Black Friday pricings, leading the Heart Rate Company to subtract $100 from the cost of a Garmin Forerunner running watch and $150 from the Garmin Edge bike computer. Not only are the Forerunners considered best-in-class in sport watches, but they’ve added touch screen technology to their latest models. Likewise, the Edge leads the way in biking as the only fully-navigational bike computer to feature instant mapping and turn-by-turn directions.

GPS sales like this are truly once-a-year events. Let TomTom or Garmin or one of the other brands help you drive smarter, hike safer, or work out harder.
