The Best Options for Black Friday MP3 Players

An MP3 player, whether it be an iPod, Zune, or one of the other major audio players, is almost the perfect gift for anyone on your list. First of all, everyone uses one. Secondly, even though everyone uses one and that means they already have one, everyone always wants the new version. The only way you can lose is if you don’t get one for yourself as well on Black Friday.

First up we’ll talk about the iPod. Because when MP3 players are the topic, this is the one people mean. The iPod is basically synonymous with the best MP3 player, and those white ear buds are everywhere you look. There are four different types of iPods currently on offer and, surprise surprise, they’re all gorgeous with incredible functionality. You just have to decide which one suits you best.

The iPod Shuffle. This is the baby of the bunch, a clip-on audio player about a square-inch in size with 2GB of space and 15 hours of audio playback. Great for: younger iPod users like pre-teens and people who like to exercise to their own soundtrack without worrying about a pricy iPod smashing on the road. Regular $49.

The iPod Nano. This one’s got a big space upgrade from the Shuffle, 16 GB. It also features video and a touch display. Thirty hours of audio playback and 3.5 of video. Great for: music and video lovers who don’t see the need for internet connectivity on their MP3 players, and work-out fiends who will make the most of the built-in Nike+ support. Regular $149.

The iPod Touch. The Touch comes in three versions with three price points. A 16 GB for $229, 32 GB for $299, and 64 GB for $399. In addition to its audio and video, the iPod Touch also has email and internet capability and an HD camera, complete with video recording. Great for: people who love gadgets.

The iPod Classic. An oldie but a goodie. The Classic offers a massive 160 GB of space, room enough for your entire media library. None of the bells and whistles of the Touch, just a ton of space. Great for: music and video junkies. Regular $249.

Come Black Friday, pretty much your only chance at a sale on iPods will come straight from the Apple Store, where iPod Touches will be about $21-$41 and Nanos $11 off. If you’re looking for something that could be considered one of the best MP3 players but you don’t want that little Apple logo on it, consider a Microsoft Zune. They were discontinued in 2011 but continue to pop up on Amazon at great prices.
