Guide to Buying Black Friday TVs

With the way Black Friday is situated right up against Thanksgiving and looking directly towards Christmas, it’s no wonder TV deals are such an integral part of Black Friday shopping. We’re in the throes of NFL and college football seasons and coming up on gift-giving time, both of which appear on the long list of reasons we want, nay, need a new flat-screen. Lucky for us, the television sales this time of year do all the convincing. Read on for a guide to buying the four main types of Black Friday TVs.

LCD TV

LCD or liquid crystal display televisions have overtaken the television market these past few years, and with their high-resolution screens, light weight, and slim profiles, it’s easy to see why. On Black Friday, LCD TVs will be available anywhere televisions are sold, it’s just a matter of finding a cheap LCD TV that will fit perfectly in your living room or bedroom. Or basement. Or kitchen. Really anywhere you want to put one.

In 2012, the absolute best LCD deal came from Best Buy with a 40-inch Toshiba selling for $179. Wait and see how they’ll top that this year.

Plasma TV

If LCD is in first place in the TV market, Plasma is definitely in second. It’s even widely thought that Plasma TVs have the superior picture quality, and now that issues like image burn-in and screen glare have been addressed, Plasma TV will only gain popularity as screen sizes grow.

In 2012, the most economical Plasma TV choices came in the Samsung models. The best deal we saw was a 51-inch Samsung at Walmart for $478.

3D TV

Though many were quick to write off the 3D TV as a fad, 3D television sales nearly doubled from 2011 to 2012. Now that some models don’t even require those dorky glasses for 3D viewing, we’re poised to see an even bigger jump in sales in 2013.

You have to keep in mind that 3D TV is still a new technology, and you’re going to pay accordingly. This year’s best deals will certainly top last year’s – a 55-inch Samsung 3D TV from Best Buy for $900 – but if budget is a concern, a cheap LCD TV or Plasma may be more up your alley right now.

Cheap Black Friday TVs

This is a category of TV that everyone thinks of in general on Black Friday, but rarely zero right in on. If all you want is a big TV with big savings, get a store brand television, like Dynex or Insignia. They’re made by the big brands so you know the quality is there, and the biggest cost cuts will undoubtedly be on these oft-overlooked models.
